Our Mission
|
To INSPIRE, TRAIN AND EMPOWER
the emerging generations of Ethiopians to create new visions of heritage. |
|
Who we areHeritage Watch is a civil society organization and a resource center that helps all Ethiopians to recognize the value of protecting and promoting heritage, focusing specifically on the cities of Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa and the Oromia region. |
HW ProjectsWith local and international partners, we design and organize a variety of projects to support culture and tourism industries in Ethiopia. |
Changing minds, changing behaviorWe believe that raising awareness about heritage preservation is an essential priority and responsibility for all Ethiopians |
In the face of heritage, the rights of posterity were more important than the desires of the present.
---John Muir
OUR GOAL
To tell the untold stories of urban Ethiopia threatened by rapid development |
|
Our Priorities
Building Partnerships
We create and host training sessions and workshops for diverse audiences, from architects, urban planners, artists and historians. These activities contribute to knowledge sharing and media publishing projects on heritage preservation skills and strategies for the African context.
|
Designing Tools
Virtual tours, digital maps, place markers, accessible historical data on heritage sites---these are just a few of the ways that HW contributes to knowledge gaps for local and international tourists. |
Developing Youth Leaders
HW is focused on making heritage relevant, personal and accessible for young Ethiopians. School clubs, inter-African consortium of heritage professionals and employment young professionals as project consultants are few ways we do this.
